Computer Updater is software that is powered by its USERS. When you use Computer Updater, you agree to anonymously submit information about the software programs installed on your computer to our updates database. For example, information such as the program name, publisher, and version number are submitted. Now think about it... The more people who use Computer Updater, the more program information is submitted to our database and the more updates we support. This means program information is constantly added to the Computer Updater database making it one of the LARGEST updates databases in the world. Here's an example. Say you have version 1.0 of XYZ program installed on your computer. But another Computer Updater user has version 2.0 of XYZ program. In this case our database becomes "aware" that version 2.0 of XYZ program exists. The next time you scan your computer for Available Updates, Computer Updater will alert you to update to the new version 2.0 of XYZ program. Computer Updater may make your computer more secure! The reason is many of the security threats today are caused by "code flaws" (e.g. honest mistakes) in old software programs. When I say "old" software it doesn't have to be months or years old. It's any software program where a security problem was discovered and an update is available to fix that problem. It may be software that's only weeks or even days "old". What do I mean exactly? Basically, one of the GOOD guys (a software programmer with the best intentions) wrote a program that may be on your computer. However, he or she accidentally left a "hole" open in their software program that a hacker discovers and leaves your computer vulnerable. I'm assuming you're not a computer programmer so you don't realize how complicated most software code is and how easy it is to make such a mistake. And if a hole is open, a hacker will jump right through it. I'm not saying that ALL old programs have "holes" in them. But, some of them may have a hole. That's why the best practice is to update all the software on your computer on a regular basis. And that's where Computer Updater can help you.
